What is NOLTY Paper?
Every NOLTY notebook begins with one simple question: how should writing feel?
NOLTY Paper is the result of decades of refinement, combining carefully selected paper, thoughtful construction and Japanese craftsmanship to create a writing experience that feels smooth, comfortable and dependable every day.
More than just paper, it is the foundation of every NOLTY notebook and diary, designed to help ideas flow naturally from pen to page.
Our Craftsmanship
Every NOLTY notebook begins with the page.
For more than 70 years, we've refined every detail of the writing experience — from how the paper feels under a pen to how each notebook opens, performs and lasts through everyday use.
Every notebook and diary is made in Japan, where papermaking and bookbinding continue to be treated as a craft.
Why our paper is different
-
Smooth Writing
Paper engineered for a smooth glide, not a scratchy one, with even ink flow from edge to edge.
-
Fountain Pen Friendly
A finish that takes fountain pen ink beautifully, without feathering or drying too fast.
-
Bleed-Resistant
A denser sheet that resists show-through and bleed, so you can write on both sides with confidence.
-
Lay-Flat Binding
Opens completely flat for comfortable writing on both pages, without breaking the spine.
-
Considered Texture
A slight tooth that gives pen and pencil something to grip, without ever feeling rough.
-
Made in Japan
Developed and produced in Japan, where papermaking for planners and notebooks has been refined for decades.
Our Story Since 1949
Since 1949, made with intention.
1949 — Where it began
In Japan, Iwao Ono of the Japan Management Association designed the Noritsu Techo: the country's first planner with hourly time markings, built to help people manage their time and get more out of their day. It became the foundation of what NOLTY is today.
Teaching people to plan well
NOLTY was never just about the notebook. JMAM published guides on how to use a planner well, treating time management as a skill worth teaching, not something you were expected to just know.
Today - NOLTY
In a world of disposable stationery, NOLTY makes the opposite bet: that a notebook worth using is one built to last, and a diary worth keeping is one you will actually want to open.
That belief has not changed since 1949, and it is why NOLTY is now finding a new home with writers, planners and journalers across the UK, while expanding its presence across Europe.
